Sergio Ramos tells Giuly he has “another 4 or 5 years left in football”

Sergio Ramos isn’t having the kind of season he might have hoped for at PSG. Last weekend, he returned to the starting XI for the away meeting with Clermont following months plagued by fitness problems. To date, he has played just six games for the French club. But this week he caught up for former Barça player Ludovic Giuly for an interviewed which was aired on ‘Prime Video Sport France’ in the buildup to Sunday’s Classique against Olympique Marseille.

Surprisingly, Ramos admitted that he has no immediate plans to hang up his boots. “I can see myself still playing at the top level for another four to five years. After that, I will be ready for a new experience. I have two years left here in Paris, and I’ll try to make it three, we’ll see. While my body holds up, I think mentally I am very focused”. Ramos was forced to do some multi-tasking during the interview with a spot of shooting practice while he answered Giuly’s questions. “Right now, I am really good, very happy and dying to get back playing,” he said.

When asked if he would prefer to be the best in the world in his position or play for the best team, Ramos replied: “I would rather play for the best team in the world because in the end, football is a collective sport in which everyone tries to win. I’d prefer to win international tournaments, the Champions League...”

And he added that he wasn’t sure who he likes playing for the most, his club or the national team. “That’s a difficult question to answer, the feeling you get representing your country is huge. You owe it to your club to play well, you need to play well for your club to be called up for the national team. Both are special feelings, but I couldn’t elect just one, although with the national team you have the chance to aspire to becoming world champions”. And to end, a non-sporting-related question - his favourite dessert? Tiramisu.
