A year ago, Sergio Ramos had yet to make his PSG debut. He arrived in August as one of the French club’s star signings, but a series of fitness issues, which even led to rumours of his contract being terminated, prevented him from taking to the field for his new side. A year later, the defender has not only regained his fitness, but has become a talismanic player for the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Sergio Ramos unbeaten in 29 games for PSG

In 29 games played, Ramos has yet to taste defeat in a PSG shirt. In fact, he could break a record held by Juan Pablo Sorín next Saturday if he plays against Troyes. In Ligue 1, the Spaniard hasn’t lost in any of his 21 appearances (17 wins and 4 draws), so if PSG avoid defeat on Saturday and the former Real Madrid man starts, he would surpass the Argentine’s record and become the first footballer not to lose in 22 consecutive games in French football.

Included in Luis Enrique’s provisional squad for the World Cup in Qatar, Ramos still dreams of being called up by the Spanish national team. He has had an exceptional start to the season at PSG, both in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League, whether playing in a back three or in the new 4-3-1-2 system implemented by Christophe Galtier. The former Sevilla defender has been a pillar of the Parisian defence and has formed formidable partnerships with Marquinhos and Kimpembe. With a series of calf injuries now seemingly well behind him, Ramos has finally been able to find some consistency in Paris.
