Oh dear, David

The Manchester United goalkeeper divides opinion. He is one of the finest shot-stoppers in the world and has keep a top performer for United over the past decade. But his struggles with his feet continued tonight. 

He put his side under pressure early on when an ill-judged pass to Harry Maguire led to the first goal. With five minutes remaining he miscontrolled a long ball on the edge of his box which handed the tie to Sevilla. 

Much has been said about his suitability for a ball-playing system like Ten Hag's. The was little in tonight's performance to suggest that he has what it takes.

We saw a fantastic all-round performance from Sevilla tonight but it was a neatly taken brace from Youssef En-Nesyri that started and finished a memorable evening in Seville. 

Twice he pounced on defensive lapses in the Manchester United backline to put his side into the final four of the Europa League. 

'Can we play you every week?'

Sevilla extend their brilliant record against Manchester United with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. In the past five years the two sides have met five times and the Sevillians have had the better of every tie. 

Ahead of this tie the gap between the two sides, in United's favour, appeared to be the biggest to date. Not on tonight's evidence. 

More Sevilla magic in the Europa League

Celebrations in Seville after another memorable night in Europe. They may not be at their best in the league this season but there is something about this side that makes them a truly formidable outfit in knock-out competition.

A long punt downfield from Luke Shaw finds Marcus Rashford running in behing the Sevilla defence. 

He's pushed wide by the recovering defending and nudged out of play, but he does at least win a corner for his side. Nearly into added time now. 

What a night for Sevilla

Fighting against relegation for much of the season, Sevilla have absolutely pulled apart Manchester United tonight. The La Liga side are three goals up on the night, 5-2 on aggregate, and deservedly so. 

In the stands the Sevilla fans are absolutely bouncing and savouring every moment of the final few minutes.

What on earth was David De Gea doing?

A long ball was punted forward by the hosts and the United goalkeeper charged out to meet it. His first touch turned into a 10-yard pass and En-Nesyri pounced on the loose ball to pass the ball into an empty net.

We're nearly into the final ten here and Manchester United are getting increasingly desperate. The ball falls to Casemiro on the edge of the Sevilla box and the Brazilian scoops the ball towards the goal. 

Not entirely sure what he was aiming for but the ball bobbles tantalisingly across the Sevilla box.

They are starting to sit back more, but the home side maintains a real threat from set pieces. An Ivan Rakitic corners is scrambled clear but the Croatian picks up the ball out wide and fires low and hard across the United box. 

The ball, somehow, evades everyone and goes out for a goal kick.

You get the sense that there could well be another goal here, but it could be either side who make the breakthrough.

What a strike from Christian Eriksen! 

The Dane steps up and fires a wicked dipping shot towards the top corner. Bono is at full stretch but get nowhere near the ball as it zips just wide of the post.

Finally, a decent spell of possession from the visitors with some neat build-up play in the final third. The Sevilla defence repels two hopeful balls into the box but Fred is felled 25 yards from goal.

The Brazilian enters the fray in Seville. 

Unless Manchester United can bring about a pretty major turnaround in the final 25 minutes, Erik ten Hag's side will soon be vacating the Europa League. 

Sevilla have been by far the better side in the first hour of action and are deservedly two goals to the good. The home crowd, sensing another famous victory, are enjoying every single second of it. 

Scarves are being swirled around heads, the stands are bouncing, and the Sevilla players are taking every opportunity to rally their support. 

Something big is needed from Manchester United here.

Casemiro drops a shoulder on the edge of the Sevilla box and curls a loopy left-footed shot goalwards. Bono sees it coming though and palms the ball comfortably away.

The Englishman runs onto a pass behind the Sevilla defence but takes a heavy touch and the ball is smothered by Bono.

The Dutchman joins Marcus Rashford and Antony in the United frontline.

It should be three. 

The hosts win the ball from a Rakitic corner and it bounces around the six yard box for what seems like an age. Legs are dangled and bodies are hurled but the ball stays out of the United net. 

The hosts could almost kill the tie with another goal here. Can United stay strong?

Dream start to the second half for Sevilla as they convert the first opportunity that comes their way. The marking was a little loose in the United box but it was a sensational header from Bade, managing to flick the ball over his shoulder and past a stranded David De Gea.

Well, what a half of football for Sevilla. 

Struggling towards the wrong end of La Liga for much of the season the Europa League specialists are now 45 minutes away from another famous win in this competition. And they have certainly deserved it. 

The hosts have shown incredible intensity throughout that half, both with and without the ball. 

Out of possession they have denied any space for Manchester United's midfield and strangled the service to the forwards. 

With it, Sevilla have looked devastating on the break and could easily have added to their early goal. Lucas Ocampos in particular has been a constant thorn in the side of the United defence and nearly doubled his side's lead with a brilliant finish. 

Work to be done for Erik ten Hag to turn this around...

he hosts have dominated the opening 45 and could easily be two ahead. Manchester United can count themselves lucky but know that big improvement is needed if they are to turn it around in the second half.

The corner kick is cleared and Sevilla launch a lightening-quick counter that sees the ball fired across the United box. It's nudged out for a corner by Antony and the visitors are able to clear their lines.

The visitors manage a foray forward and Casemiro finds space on the edge on the box. His shot is deflected wide for a corner.

The hosts are really pushing now, Suso skips past Dalot on the right and dinks a lovely ball into the box. A ball just too high, however, for the Sevilla forwards.

With apologies to any Sevilla fans cruelly led on by a recent post, the goal is ruled out for a fairly marginal offside. 

Still 1-0 on the night, 3-2 to Sevilla on aggregate.

Quick passing, forward runs, and some neat footwork from Lamela. Unfortunately a rather weak effort to finish. That's the blueprint for Sevilla now.

We've seen a frenetic pace in the opening quarter of the game here in Seville, one that the hosts have undoubtedly got the better of. Manchester United are looking to build the play through the middle but are struggling to break through Sevilla's compact shape.

It's a nightmare for Harry Maguire but Sevilla are in dreamland here, with a 3-2 lead in the tie. 

The fans are really up for this now as Marcos Acuña flies into a challenge in front of the dugouts.

The United captain was played the ball by De Gea on the edge of his box, surrounding by three Sevilla forwards. The trio pounced on Maguire's attempted pass and En-Nesyri was on hand to slot the ball past De Gea. 

Manchester United appear to be setting up with Eriksen and Casemiro playing fairly close together in a double pivot, with Sabitzer given freedom to roam further ahead. 

Given Sabitzer's first leg brace, Ten Hag may be looking to make the most of his attacking energy.

Erik ten Hag says his players must “use emotion as a tool”

Can Manchester United players channel their emotions into the performance against Sevilla? In the first leg the Red Devils allowed the occasion to get the better of them in the second half and picked up a number of bookings. 

Ahead of Thursday's game, Erik ten Hag said that his side need to learn how to use their emotions.

‘’This is also in the development of our team. We have to use emotion as a tool, but you have to control it as well,” Ten Hag said.

“You have to put it in the right moments and that is important. That is in big games especially, you have to know when to use it and also when not to.”
