Shakira's new release fallout

Shakira hits out at ex-partner Piqué in new song

Colombian muscian Shakira has released a much-anticipated song this week, airing her thoughts on ex-husband and former footballer Gerard Piqué. The track, produced by Argentinian Bizarrap, was released on the producer's BZRP Music Sessions on YouTube.

Shakira pulls no punches in the song, which has already been listened to more than 75 million times. In it, she references the breakdown of their marriage, tax troubles and Piqué's new girlfriend Clara Chia...

Former Barcelona striker Sergio Agüero winds up Gerard Piqué

Gerard Piqué is going to have to get used to this.

Former Barcelona teammate - albeit briefly - Sergio Agüero, who is involved in Piqué's Kings League, playfully responded "claramente" ('clearly') - one of the most used words in Shakira's new song - to a point made by Piqué in reference to a new feature in the 7-a-side soccer competition.

Agüero's "Claramente tienes razón" ("Clearly you're right") prompted great laughter on the latest Kings League Twitch stream, during which Piqué revealed sponsorship deals with Casio and Renault, brands that Shakira used in the lyrics of the song to poke fun at the former soccer player and new girlfriend Clara Chía.

This one is going to run for a good while...

Shakira move to Miami imminent

Well-known Mexican entertainment journalist Ana María Alvarado has confirmed that Shakira is set to move imminently to Miami despite her issues with the Spanish tax office.

"Some people have claimed that Shakira won't be moving yet because of her outstanding issues with the Spanish tax office. But I can confirm that her children have already enrolled in a school in Miami. I won't say which one because of Miami laws and to respect the children's privacy, but they're already enrolled in one."

Gerard Piqué's father sees the funny side of Shakira saga

It's been reported that Gerard Piqué's father isn't taking the whole Shakira situation too seriously.

Catalan broadcaster TV3 have reported that he has changed his WhatsApp profile picture to one of Kevin Costner from the movie Dancing with wolves, which is also now his current WhatsApp status.

A reference, of course, to lyrics in the song which can be translated as "A wolf like me isn't for a guy like you."

Shakira's BZRP Music Sessions breaks streaming record

The infamous song has drawn attention from around the world and has now brokwn the Spotify record for the most streams on a single day for a Latin music song. When you add in more than 75 million views of the music video on YouTube, the track is closing in on 100 million listens in just two days.

Piqué's messages to Shakira in his first media appearance since the BZRP song: Casio, Twingo, “sal-pique”...

Gerard Piqué has responded to ex-wife Shakira’s record-breaking YouTube hit that takes aim at him and supposed new girlfriend Clara Chia. The track, known simply as BZRP Music Sessions #53, has already racked up more than 75 million views on the site and it looks like the former Barcelona star is responsible for some of them.

On Friday Piqué appeared on a Twitch stream and made a number of references to Shakira’s song…

Casio unveiled as new sponsor for Piqué's Kings League

The fall-out from Shakira's song continues today as Gerard Piqué, the subject of much of the track, announced that his football competition Kings League had agreed a sponsorship deal with Casio. The budget watch manufacturer was referenced in Shakira's rap as the Colombian suggested that Piqué had moved "from a Rolex to a Casio" after they split up.

Shakira: "When life gives you lemons..."

In a tweet posted a short while ago, Shakira has said: “Thanks to the incredible @bizarrap, @SonyMusicLatin and my wonderful team and group of strong women who walk alongside me.

“This is for all the women who taught me that when life gives you lemons, there’s nothing for it but to make lemonade.”

Bizarrap makes Spotify history

According to Chart Data, Bizarrap's collaboration with Shakira has seen the Argentine go down in Spotify history in his home country:

What did Cruz Azul coach Gutiérrez and ex-star Villa say about Shakira’s Piqué song?

What did Cruz Azul coach Gutiérrez and ex-star Villa say about Shakira’s Piqué song?

In Mexican soccer, two major figures associated with Liga MX giants Cruz Azul have traded opposing opinions on Shakira's new song.

In a tweet on Thursday, former Cruz Azul forward Emanuel Villa said the Colombian's public takedown of Gerard Piqué "doesn't do any favours" to the former couple's two children.

In response, the club's current head coach, Raúl Gutiérrez, tweeted: “The question is: was Piqué thinking about the children when he took the person mentioned [in BZRP Session #53, current girlfriend Clara Chía] to his house, where he lived with Shakira?’’

Who is Briella? Did Shakira plagiarize her song?

Who is Briella? Did Shakira plagiarize her song?

Shakira’s BZRP Music Sessions #53 track bears a striking resemblance to Venezuelan singer Briella’s song Sólo tú, Bubbaloo (Only you). Who is Briella?

Shakira's BZRP Music Sessions accused of plagiarism

Shakira's BZRP Music Sessions #53 track is already the hottest debut in Youtube history with 50 million views in 24 hours but parts of the melody bear a striking resemblance to Venezuelan singer Briella's song Sólo tú(Only you) which was released in June last year.

Brilla posted a video noting the similarity, "I'm a super fan of Shakira and I like both songs, hers and mine. I'm in shock and to be honest, I don't know what to do!"

Piqué irritated by Shakira song but won't be taking legal action

While Gerard Piqué has not publicly reacted to Shakira's new release with Bizarrap which pointedly take a pop at him, it is believed that the former Barcelona player isn't too pleased about it. According to Sálvame reporter Kike Calleja, Piqué isn't happy about the song lyrics but will not be pursuing the matter in the courts. "I've been told that Gerard is quite angry, really annoyed, and has just one wish right now - that Shakira leaves Barcelona as soon as possible".

It is rumoured that Shakira plans to move to Miami at Easter.

Aitana busts a move to Shakira

Spanish singer Aitana clearly is a fan of Shakira's new song.

Renault responds to Shakira slight

The car company may not have been the Colombian singer's intended target, but the mention of the Twingo has got a reaction from them.

"I’m worth two 22-year-olds. You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded in a Rolex for a Casio," she sang, referencing how much better she, now 45 years old, is than any newer, younger model. Clara Chia is just 23 years old...22 at the time they split, we can assume. Piqué is 35.

Renault's tongue-in-cheek reply:

'Twingo's going to love you forever, Shakira. We promise.'

Can't stop talking about it

A side issue in the Shakira-slams-Piqué saga is an insinuation that the sizzling-hot song plagiarized parts of another sung by Briella. Some were quick to dismiss the allegation, while others agree with the singer. This tweet below says that similarities between songs have existed for most of the history of music.

What do you think?

Seal aping Shakira

This has got to be one of the most adorable memes that's come out in the wake of Shakira's new song.

Imagine a seal lip-syncing... "A she-wolf like me... ain't for rookies like you..."

Shakira's song a certified hit

There’s no doubt about it: all the buzz surrounding Shakira’s new song has made it a monster hit. In only 24 hours it hit 50 million views! (It currently stands at 54 million.) Whether you view her as a bitter ex or a brilliant musician, it’s just hard to argue with the numbers.

What has Gerard Piqué said about Shakira’s song?

What has Gerard Piqué said about Shakira’s song?

Here's a little summary of what Gerard Piqué's said publicly since the music video was released. You get the feeling there's more to come, don't you?

No sign of Clara Chía and my colleague Marta doesn't think we should expect to hear from her any time soon either.

Gerard Piqué's cryptic Twitter message...

We told you a little earlier about how Gerard Piqué had turned up on social media for the first time since Shakira had released her video.

Well, he's back again.

"YOU ARE GOING to find out" reads his latest tweet (my caps lock was not on by mistake there). Again, the clown makes an appearance, both in emoji form and in a video.

Given that he's tagged in the KingsLeague Twitter account and the clown is about to take off his or her mask before the video cuts away, Piqué could simply be referring to the fact that another masked player is set to appear in the 7-a-side soccer tournament and his or her identity will be revealed.

Or it could be something else entirely...

Venezuelan singer-songwriter Briella sees similarities between her song and Shakira's

Any interesting story coming from Venezuela, as singer-songwriter Briella believes that Shakira's song on BZRP Music Sessions #53 was 'inspired' by her own tune called Solo tú. She's not trying to stir up trouble though.

“Truth be told, I think Shakira was inspired by my song Solo tú for her Bizarrap session,” she said on Instagram. “My song was released six months ago and went viral here on TikTok.

“I am not making this video with the intention of looking for problems. I am a lifelong fan of Shakira. I am a fan of Biza’s work. I am really in shock; I don’t know what to do.”

Have a listen to Briella's song here and you can make your own mind up.

What did Lionel Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo say about Shakira’s song?

What did Lionel Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo say about Shakira’s song?

Here's a bit more on Antonella Roccuzzo's reaction to Shakira's post. You'll be unsurprised to hear that she got a few likes for her comments.

Do they actually get on, or not? For years it was rumoured that they didn't, but that might have been wide of the mark.

Antonela seems to be on 'team Shakira

Is Antonela on team Shakira? Take a look at the comments on this one.

Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué always seemed to be good buddies and it looks as if their (ex-)wives are too.

The multiple fire emoji can only mean that, right?

Gerard Piqué has spoken!

The man himself has resurfaced! Not that there's any suggestion that he was in hiding...

"Tomorrow (Friday) at 9pm, 'Chup Chup' Kings League with all the presidents. Life can be wonderful".

I think you can work out the translation of the clown emoji for yourselves. The last phrase the only (semi-)reference to everything that's been going on surrounding the new Shakira song. I wonder if he's listened to it...

For those of you not in the loop, by the way, the Kings League is a 7-a-side celebrity soccer league Piqué runs with Spanish Twitch star Ibai Llanos. Each team has a 'president' (like a captain), with Iker Casillas and Sergio Agüero involved with two of the 12 teams.

The marmalade... when Shakira sensed Piqué might be having an affair

When Shakira released Te felicito (Congratulations) last year, there was a clue in the official video that she already sensed that there could be a third person in her relationship with Gerard Piqué. Halfway through the video, Sharika is seen opening a fridge only to be confronted by Rauw Alejandro's head on one of the shelves.

Obviously, she was asked specifically about that shot in an interview. "You didn't open the fridge looking for milk, what were you looking for?" - to which the singer replied, "The truth". One theory that has surfaced is that Shakira noticed that some of the food in the fridge in the masion she shared with Piqué in Esplugues de Llobregat had been consumed - but not by her, by someone else. According to one commentator, it could have been what the jar of marmalade symbolised in the video, even though there is no hard proof that Clara Chía had been in the couple's house.

His latest release with Shakira is the 53rd video in the Sessions series. Shakira's new song full lyrics in English; clear shade on Pique

Sorry, I got another plane
I’m not coming back here
I don’t want another disappointment
So much that you say you’re the champion
And when I needed you
You gave your worst version

Sorry baby I should have thrown you out a while ago
A wolf like me is not for beginners
A wolf like me is not for guys like you

For guys like you
I’m too good for you and that’s why you’re with someone just like you

This is for you to mortify yourself
Chew and swallow, swallow and chew
I’m not getting back with you, don’t cry for me, nor beg me
I understood that it’s not my fault that they criticize you
I only make music, sorry that it bothers you

You left me the in-laws as my neighbors
Media outlets at my door and in debt
You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger
Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.

She has the name of a good person.
It’s clearly not what it sounds like
She has the name of a good person
She’s clearly the same as you

For guys like you
I’m too good for you and that’s why you’re with someone just like you

From love to hate there’s a step
Don’t come back here, pay attention to me
Zero grudge baby,
I wish you good luck with my supposed replacement
I don’t even know what happened to you
You are so strange that I can’t even distinguish you
I’m worth two of 22 [year old]
You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo
You traded a Rolex for a Casio

You’re going fast, slow down
A lot of exercises but work the brain a little too

Photos where they see me
I feel like a hostage
For me everything is fine
I’ll vacate you tomorrow and if you want, she can come too

She has the name of a good person
It’s clearly not what it sounds like
She has the name of a good person
She’s clearly the same as you
For guys like you
I’m too good for you and that’s why you’re with someone just like you

Has Clara reacted to Shakira's song?

Well, weren't we all waiting for this moment...

Clearly, today everyone wants to know if Clara Chía Martí has the name of a good person or not. In case you didn't get that, this is what Shakira says in her song referring to Pique's current girl: "She has the name of a good person. It’s clearly not what it sounds like."

Clara remains a mystery to the vast majority due to the absolute secrecy she practices in her life and her social networks.  However, it seems that a new story has surfaced on one of Clara's accounts (which we're not sure if it is the official one), reacting to the Colombian's song.

In the video, barely four seconds long, we can see Chía herself very close-up dancing to an animated song, presumably that of the one from Barranquilla. And while we know everyone who has seen this story has played around with the volume button several times (including this writer), the story is silenced, not making it clear whether it's Shakira's song.

Shakira’s BZRP Music Session about Piqué explained: What do the lyrics mean?

There's a lot of chatter about Shakira's new song targeting her ex Gerard Piqué, but can we really be sure it was all about him?

Our Jen looks into the lyrics and says, without a doubt, yes!

Team Shakira vs. Team Piqué

As expected, the Twitter-verse has its own debate about whom to side with. This tweet says, “Don't be Piqué, don't be the unfaithful husband you don't respect.”

This was in response to the tweet which says: "Don’t be Shakira, don’t be the tiresome ex who hasn’t moved on."

Which side are you on?

In what other songs has Shakira attacked Piqué since their separation?

In what other songs has Shakira attacked Piqué since their separation?

Shakira's collaboration with Argentine record producer BZRP has caused shockwaves because it tells of her strong feelings against ex-partner Piqué, but this is not the first time the soccer player has been alluded to in her lyrics.

Here's more about the singer's musical references to the 35-year-old Spaniard.

Down and out

Some feel that Shakira may have been a little harsh on her ex.

"The summary of the new song of Shakira with Bizarrap...

Let him be already, he's already dead."

Collateral damage?

The lyrics of Shakira's song has the following lines: "You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo... You traded in a Rolex for a Casio",

Would those words have an effect on the two brands?

"The marketing teams of Casio and Twingo after listening to the music session of Shakira and Bizarrap."

The effect on Piqué's circles

This tweet implies that things could get awkward when the soccer player meets his friends.

"The people close to Piqué pretending they haven't heard the song of Shakira and Bizarrap."

Shakira and Piqué's children

Shakira and Piqué have two children: nine-year-old Milan and seven-year old Sasha. None of them are featured in this tweet, which says "Piqué catching his son listening to Shakira's music session."

Who is Clara Chía, Piqué's new girlfriend who Shakira attacks in the BZRP Music Session?

Clara Chia has reportedly been the reason that Shakira and Gerard Piqué broke up. Get to know more about the soccer player's supposed current girlfriend, and how the new song alludes to her.

The revealing lyrics

Many have been analyzing the words of Shakira's new song, and some have come to the conclusion that they spell disaster for Piqué.

"Making a syntactic and morphological analysis of the lyrics of the song by Shakira and Bizarrap. RIP PIQUÉ"

Shakira buries Piqué

YouTuber Empershao has a rather dire prediction for Piqué, and the meme he posted seems to suggest that this is the player's fate after the release of his ex-partner's song.

Cryptic circus emojis

Shortly before Shakira's song was to be released, Gerard Piqué wrote a post on Twitter that only put emojis related to a circus.

It could be an allusion to a "circus" that his ex-partner is staging. Others have commented that the circus reference was related to soccer and not to the singer.

What do you think?

Shakira rubs it in

Shakira's new song is already a massive hit, judging from the number of views that it immediately got. Millions in just a couple of hours! Whatever message the Colombian superstar wanted so send, many received it loud and clear.

The Twingo pleads innocence

One of the lines of Shakira's release says "You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo", and the humble car doesn't want to be embroiled in this beef.

As this meme quotes, the car is asking "And what did I do?"
