“Shit happens”: Galatasaray forward Noa Lang’s first message from hospital bed after horror injury vs Liverpool
The Dutch player shared a candid post-surgery update on Instagram, showing him in good spirits despite the freak injury and Champions League exit.

Galatasaray forward Noa Lang has shown he is in good spirits after suffering a horror injury in his team’s 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
Freak injury at Anfield
In the closing stages of the last-16 second leg, Lang was left writhing in pain and clutching his right hand after appearing to catch his thumb on an advertising hoarding at the Anfield Road end.
The Dutch international is believed to have sustained the deep cut when he placed his hands on top of the hoarding in a bid to cushion his body’s momentum following a tussle for the ball with Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.
Stretchered off and rushed to hospital
Lang, who had come on for Sacha Boey at halftime, required several minutes of medical attention, with doctors from both clubs involved. He was then stretchered off and taken to a hospital in Liverpool.
After the game, a Galatasaray statement revealed the Dutchman had suffered a “severe laceration” to his thumb and would undergo emergency surgery before leaving the U.K.

On Thursday morning, Lang provided a post-surgery update on Instagram and appeared to be in high spirits despite the freak injury and his team’s heavy defeat and Champions League elimination.
“Shit happens,” Lang commented on a post containing a selfie of him lying in his Galatasaray kit in a hospital bed, alongside two smiling nurses.
The 26-year-old reshared the post to his Instagram Stories, adding, “Surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages.”
