There is one clear cut favorite to take the job at Tottenham after Igor Tudor and the club parted ways after a short stint as interim manager. Spurs are targeting Roberto De Zerbi, but some supporters groups have publicly admonished a potential deal with the former Marseille manager.

No to De Zerbi, the message from some groups

With seven matches remaining in the league campaign, Tottenham are in serious danger of what would be a disastrous relegation. Sitting just one point above West Ham in 18th, Spurs made a desperation move to let Tudor go following a brief and unsuccessful term with the north London club.

De Zerbi is leading the race to fill the void on the touchline at Tottenham, and seems to have lightened up on his stance of wanting to take over during the summer. Reports are saying the Italian could be set on a return to the Premier League as soon as the next few days, but there are some supporters groups that are patently against De Zerbi coming to town following remarks made about Mason Greenwood.

The message is quite simple from various groups around Tottenham. As the Women of the Lane put it: “No to De Zerbi.” This stems from previous statements in which Greenwood was labeled as a “good guy” who paid a “very heavy price” after attempted rape and assault charges were filed against him in 2022.

Decision day looming

One of those groups is the Proud Lilywhites, released a statement saying “We’ve seen the reports linking Roberto De Zerbi with the Tottenham job, and honestly, it doesn’t sit right.” They continued, stating, “as Proud Lilywhites, we care deeply about this club, not just what happens on the pitch, but what Tottenham stands for off it. This isn’t just about results or style of football. It’s about values, identity, and the kind of people we choose to represent us.”

De Zerbi had previously said he would only be interested in taking the job during the summer given that Tottenham stay in the Premier League. That stance seems to have shifted a bit since Spurs are reportedly ready to offer him a survival bonus and a signing fee.

Tottenham aren’t the only one interested in signing the Italian, but with the current situation and desperation at the club they seem intent to bring the former Brighton boss aboard with hopes he will save the season and turn things around in the years to come. Harry Redknapp and Sam Dyche have also been liked to a move to Tottenham, but De Zerbi is the big fish that the Spurs board is trying to lure with seven matches remaining.
