WORLD CUP 2022

South Korea vs Portugal odds and predictions: Who is the favorite in the World Cup 2022 game?

Portugal are already safely through to the next round but South Korea are still in with a chance of securing second place in Group H.

You can follow the live action of the last game of the group H between Portugal and South Korea on As.com.

The opening phase at 2022 Qatar reaches its conclusion on Friday with groups G and H the final groups to be determined. Portugal are in the fortunate position of already being through to the knockout round - they were one of just three teams to win their first two group games. That might persuade coach Fernando Santos to rest a few of his key players for today’s meeting with South Korea. However, mathematically, Portugal are still not quite guaranteed top spot in their group - Ghana could theoretically knock them off the summit if they beat Uruguay by two goals or more and Santos’ men lose. So far, no team has won all three games during the group stage and leadership changed hands in three groups (C, E and F) on the final day.

That is significant for those still in with a chance of qualifying from Group H as whoever finishes second in the group could find themselves up against Brazil, the odds-on favourites to win the World Cup, in the Last 16.

That’s a scenario which obviously, Portugal would rather avoid, so logging top spot is paramount. A draw against South Korea would be enough.

Portugal beat Ghana 3-2 and Uruguay 2-0 in their opening group games; South Korea were held to a 0-0 draw by Uruguay and lost 2-3 to Ghana. Portugal top Group H on six points with Ghana second on three, and South Korea and Uruguay both on one. On paper, Portugal and Ghana look the most likely to go through but South Korea could still qualify and this is their last chance.

South Korea vs Portugal odds

There’s only one precedent between these sides to go on. The one and only previous meeting ended in a 0-1 win to the Asians but that was 20 years ago. Even if Portugal lose they could still finish as champions of the group while the Koreans need to win otherwise they are out.

As you might expect, Portugal are favourites, priced at -126 by the bookies while South Korea are at +305 to win. A draw is priced at +290. The over/under for total goals odds is the standard 2.5.
