Spain host Portugal in another edition of the Iberian Derby on Thursday, on this occasion in the UEFA Nations League.

Luis Enrique’s side were runners-up to France in last season’s finals and will hope to be in the mix again this campaign, although La Roja are something of a transitional side at the moment and far from the force they were on the world stage a decade ago, despite reaching the semifinals at the Euros.

At 37 years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo is still at the peak of his powers, scoring goals with Manchester United and breaking records on the international stage.

Ronaldo made his Portugal debut in a friendly win (1-0) against Kazakhstan in August 2003. In the same year, he joined Manchester United from Sporting CP and almost two decades later, he is still leading his country out as captain.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner equalled Ali Daei’s record of 109 international goals at Euro 2020 and then surpassed it with two goals against the Republic of Ireland last September, becoming the top international goalscorer of all time.
