Spain will play against Costa Rica for their opening game in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday, in the first official match between the two teams.

Many members of the young Spanish team have no World Cup experience, but manager Luis Enrique believes that their energy and hope will make up for it.

Spain: Lackluster since 2010

La Roja has not delivered spectacular performances in the competition since they became champions in 2010, while Costa Rica turned out their best showing in 2014, when they reached the quarter finals. However, Spain is favored to win this matchup, especially as their opponent is the lowest-ranked team in Group E.

The Spanish team now has a completely healthy roster to choose from, after they replaced the Injured Jose Gaya with Alejandro Balde before the competition began.

Spain’s possible starting lineup

Enrique looks set to start Alvaro Morata and Ferran Torres on the right wing. Morata is the top scorer in the team with a tally of 27 goals. Ansu Fati could join them in the forward line, although Marco Asensio and Pablo Sarabia are also likely contenders.

Young star Pedri, Gavi, and Sergio Busquets are likely to comprise the midfield, while Pau Torres and Aymeric Laporte look set to be in the center of the defense.
