Too much Spain for the USWNT

Spain, oh Spain, their first-ever win against the U.S. women's team. It is a historic win for the Europeans and puts them next year as favorites for the World Cup. Aside from the situation, the team is suffering right now, with 15 players quitting the team with allegations of abuse. However, these new players took the opportunity and ran with it. 

When people say seize the moment, this is what it is all about. Spain, with 7 players playing in the team for the first team and some with only a few matches under their belt, proved that with a bit of self-love and want, one can achieve many things. It will be very hard for those 15 players that quit the team to now come back and expect their starting jobs. It will be an interesting thing to see in the future. 

A very fun match that left us with some very clear ideas. Spain might be on the right track for a successful World Cup, and the U.S. might be in need of an entire renovation.

Welcome to tonight’s game between Spain and the U.S. women’s national team. 

The United States Women’s National Team continue their European tour tonight with a friendly game at El Sadar in Pamplona against their Spanish counterparts. The match kicks off at 8.30pm Spanish time on Tuesday, 11 October (2.30pm ET, 11.30am PT).

After losing by two goals to one at Wembley, the USWNT will be keen to get back on track against another nation that would, under normal circumstances, be hopeful of challenging at the 2023 World Cup.

However, circumstances around the Spanish women’s national team are anything but normal at the moment. Although Spain can boast some of the world’s top female soccer players, 15 members of the roster have declared themselves unhappy with head coash Jorge Vilda and made themselves unavailable for selection for the 1-1 draw against Sweden on Friday and the game against the United States.

Needless to say that the Spanish team will not be with their top players tonight. 

USWNT star striker Alex Morgan hasn’t travelled to Europe for the two friendly matches because of a minor knee injury. Carson Pickett has been added to the roster after fellow defender Emily Fox was forced off with concussion in England. Alyssa Thompson made her national team debut on Friday at the age of 17 years and 334 days old; she’s less than half the age of veteran attacker Rapinoe.
