Sports teams around the world honor Queen Elizabeth II

At Thursday’s UEFA competitions, the European soccer clubs paid their respects to Queen Elizabeth II with a moment of silence after news of her passing.

The news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing caused reactions and moments of silence throughout the sports world. At the UEFA competitions, European soccer clubs honored the Queen with a moment of silence, and the players wore black armbands. Several Premier League clubs issued statements on social media remembering the Queen and paying her tribute.

It wasn’t just the English or just the soccer clubs who paid their respects to Queen Elizabeth II at their games. Ahead of the NFL season opener in the US between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, there was a moment of silence to honor the Queen. A moment of silence was also observed at the US Open women’s semifinal match between Ons Jabeur and Caroline Garcia as well as at the FIBA EuroBasket game in Milan between Great Britain and Italy. She was also recognized by the NHL and Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

The English Premier League is set to make a decision today on whether to postpone this weekend’s matches.

The English Football League will postpone two games scheduled for today (Friday) and will decide on the rest of the games later this weekend.

The DP World Tour suspended the first-round play through Friday and did not ay when it would resume or if the tournament would be altered.

Announcements of postponing sporting events also came from the England and Wales Cricket Board, Premiership Rugby, the Rugby Football League, and the Tour of Britain cycling event.
