The 2022 FIFA World Cup is less than one month away from starting, on 20 November, and a supercomputer has made its prediction for which two teams will be playing in the final on 18 December. According to the research conducted by BCA, Lionel Messi’s Argentina will defeat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the final in Qatar in a penalty shootout.

The research was published in a special report called ‘The Most Important Of All Unimportant Forecasts 2nd Edition: 2022 FIFA World Cup.’ BCA based the outcome of the tournament on player statistics from the EA Sport FIFA 2023 game and also sampled 192 group stage games and 64 knockout rounds played from the last four FIFA World Cups.

BCA World Cup 2022 research prediction

The research is going against the bookies because they have Argentina in fourth place in the World Cup favorites betting odds. “After much deliberation, we believe that when all is said and done, Argentiina and Lionel Messi will be the ones to lift the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar,” stated the BCA research.

“How confident are we about our choice for winner? While we are happy with our pick, Argentina will face many close games throughout the knockout stage, with the final being essentially a coin-toss. Thus, their probability to win the cup stands at only 7% even as favourites.”
