Talks between Kylian Mbappé and PSG not advancing as Real Madrid watch on
Talks between Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappé and PSG are at a standstill.
Kylian Mbappé and PSG are making no progress in his contract renewal negotiations. According to L’Équipe, PSG are still trying to renew the forward, but his stance has been clear: to serve out the last year of his contract, until 2024, and not execute the renewal clause until 2025.
If there are no positive signs in the coming weeks, PSG will sell him in the current summer transfer window. Sources close to the French side explain to L’Équipe that Mbappé promised to leave PSG with money in the bank, so a free transfer could be unlikely given the player’s promise.
Will Mbappé stay until 2024?
Both Nasser Al Khelaïfi and QSI, PSG’s owners, do not want to go through the same scenario as last year, when they did the impossible to keep Mbappé. The club, moreover, do not understand how the player posed with a club shirt until 2025 when in reality he had extended his contract for two years with the option for an extra year, which is the one he does not want to execute.
The question L’Équipe is asking right now is how Mbappé will react should PSG accept an offer from Real Madrid for the France captain. The player from Bondy has consistently reiterated that he wants to complete the final year of his contract so as not to miss out on the $87m loyalty bonus that PSG are due to pay him on 1 September. The saga continues on the banks of the River Seine.
