Ten Hag will “deal with” Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo had another fit, storming down the tunnel before the end of the game against Tottenham after not seeing any playing time.

Update:

As Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Wednesday at Old Trafford was nearing its conclusion, home manager Erik Ten Hag watched as Cristiano Ronaldo disappeared towards the changing rooms. Ronaldo is used to being a superstar, not sitting on the bench or being subbed off, and it clearly frustrates him. When Ten Hag took him off in Sunday’s 0-0 tie against Newcastle, Ronaldo stormed off the field shaking his head. On Wednesday, when Ten Hag brought on Christian Eriksen and Anthony Elanga, Ronaldo didn’t even stay on the bench to see the end. He knew he wasn’t going to be involved.

“I didn’t pay attention,” said Ten Hag when asked for his thoughts on Ronaldo storming into the tunnel. “We’ll deal with that tomorrow. I want to get the focus on this team. It was a magnificent performance from all the 11 players.”

After the display on Sunday, Ten Hag had said he was not surprised and that the reaction was quite normal. He had “no problem” with it, but also added that Ronaldo clearly thinks he should be on the field, but that he needs to convince him of that first. Until it’s dealt with, Ten Hag just wants to celebrate the victory and not give attention to Ronaldo’s negativity.

“I said 11 players, I have to correct myself. It was a performance also from the subs who came on, who once again also played a good role” said Ten Hag. “I think what we have seen today was 11 players who defend, 11 players who attack, and there was a lot of dynamics in attack as well. And I’m pleased with that. But I will not say that I’m totally satisfied because good is not good enough. That has to be the standard here at United.”
