Update:

Toluca’s Red Devils pushed but couldn’t find an edge, falling 1–0 to Tigres after an Ángel Correa goal. Now the choricero side will try to overturn the deficit at home – a scenario deeply embedded in the club’s history.

Since Mexico adopted short-format tournaments, the team from the State of Mexico’s capital has reached 12 finals, winning just two away games in that span. Home, however, has often been decisive: Toluca have lifted the title five times thanks to their dominance in front of their own fans.

Toluca finals in the short-tournament era

  • Summer 1998 | Necaxa 2-1 Toluca
  • Summer 1999 | Atlas 3-3 Toluca
  • Summer 2000 | Santos 0-2 Toluca
  • Winter 2000 | Morelia 3-1 Toluca
  • Apertura 2002 | Morelia 1-0 Toluca
  • Apertura 2006 l Chivas 1-1 Toluca
  • Apertura 2008 | Cruz Azul 0-2 Toluca
  • Bicentennial 2010 | Santos 2-2 Toluca
  • Apertura 2012 | Tijuana 2-1 Toluca
  • Clausura 2018 | Santos 2-1 Toluca
  • Clausura 2025 | América 0-0 Toluca
  • Apertura 2025 | Tigres 1-0 Toluca

The finals Toluca have lost

In short tournaments, the Red Devils have lost five finals: Invierno 2000, Apertura 2006, Apertura 2012, Clausura 2018 and Apertura 2022. Four of those defeats came at home, a reminder that history cuts both ways.

Now led by Antonio Mohamed, Toluca will look to flip the aggregate, aiming to claim a 12th league title and secure back-to-back championships. The margin is slim, but this is familiar ground for a club that has built much of its legacy on comebacks at the Nemesio Díez.
