Just a handful of days after Argentina triumphed in Qatar winning the 2022 World Cup in dramatic fashion, the first mural dedicated to Lionel Messi and the Albiceleste’s triumph has appeared in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The six meter high mural was created by Argentine artist Maximiliano Bagnasco.

Messi appears on the mural lifting the World Cup together with Dibu Martínez, Paulo Dybala and Rodrigo De Paul. “It’s my way of saying thank you. It is also a gift for people. Football for the Argentine people is always a joy, and allows us to better overcome difficult moments. We saw Argentina united with millions of people in the streets... We are world champions!” Bagnasco said.

The artist said he started working on the mural shortly after the final had finished: “I went out, partied a bit, and then went back to work and selected the image. And the next day I was already preparing all the equipment to make this mural”.

Bagnasco is also the man behind the stunning 40-meter mural dedicated to Diego Maradona and which is located in a building located near Buenos Aires.
