Paris Saint-Germain could be subject to a sanction by the Ligue de Football Professional (LFP) disciplinary committee on December 11, the day on which the club’s legal representatives have been summoned to a confrontation with Kylian Mbappé‘s lawyers, as part of the litigation over the 55 million euros that the player is claiming in unpaid bonuses and wages.

While the body does not have the authority to order the club to settle its debt with the player, it could apply sanctions, such as a signing ban, a points deduction or a fine - if it rules in favor of the Real Madrid striker.

FFF reject PSG’s appeal

This week, Mbappé referred the case to the disciplinary committee of the LFP, after the French Football Federation (FFF) declined to examine an appeal filed by Paris Saint-Germain to avoid paying him the 55 million euros he is claiming. The case will be analyzed on December 11, where the legal representatives of the player and those of Paris Saint-Germain must present their respective allegations. Conciliation is completely ruled out, since the relationship is one of no return.

In September, Mbappé took the case to the French league. On two occasions, the LFP ruled in his favour and ordered PSG to pay him the amounts claimed. However, the Parisian club claimed that the legal committee and the appeal committee had legal loopholes, so it filed a late appeal to the FFF, which refused to rule on it, considering that the document had been filed outside of the one-week deadline.

Mbappé’s verbal pact

Kylian Mbappé and his lawyers argue that Paris Saint-Germain must pay him the 55 million euros he is owed under the labor code. Since the end of last season, the player has stopped receiving the wages and bonuses he was owed and, after notifying the club on two occasions, decided to go to the French league to have them rule in his favor. The two rulings, in September and October, in his favor by the two commissions, suggest that the disciplinary commission, on 11 December, will agree with the same ruling.

PSG, for their part, have no intention of paying him the 55 million euros because, in August 2023, the player verbally committed himself, in a backstage meeting with Al Khelaïfi, to forgo those amounts.

The club recalls Mbappé‘s words in January, after winning the Super Cup, in which he declared that “whatever happens in June, my agreement with the president means that all parties are protected.” Since this commitment is not set out in writing, proving that they are right will be a complicated task for the capital club, which froze Mbappé‘s 55 million euros by clinging to that gentlemen’s agreement.

The disciplinary committee, therefore, could apply a sanction, but everything indicates that, in the event that they rule in favor of the Real Madrid star, the club will appeal again, taking the case to the judicial courts.
