LIGA MX
The Liga MX’s most valuable Mexican players
Julián Quiñones and Erick Sánchez top the ranking of the most valuable national players currently involved in the Mexican top flight.
As the years go by, and given the lack of national talent in the Liga MX, homegrown Mexican soccer players have become more expensive to buy. Prior to the start of the Clausura 2024, it’s interesting to find that the most valuable Aztec soccer player is Julián Quiñones - a naturalized Mexican Colombian who was recently called up by the Tri, making his senior international debut in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals in November.
There is currently a lack of top Mexican stars in Liga MX and the few that exist have a high market value. Here, we take a look at the 10 most expensive players in the top division of Mexican soccer according to specialist site, Transfermarkt.
Julián Quiñones tops the list with a value of 10 million euros. The América forward received his naturalization letter in 2023 and was immediately called up by Mexico’s national team. Quiñones is regarded as one of the best players in the league and finished the last tournament as the third top scorer with 10 goals.
Just behind him in the ranking is Erick Sánchez in second place, being valued at nine million euros. The Pachuca midfielder has stood out in recent years and understandably, that’s why his market value has skyrocketed from €200,000 in 2021 to almost €10 million. El Chiquito is under contract with the Tuzos until 2025 but if he continues to perform at such a high level, offers will certainly come in from Europe.
The Top 3 is completed by Jesús Angulo and Kevin Álvarez who are valued at 7 million euros. Both are full-backs and internationals with Mexico. Angulo has appeared 14 times for El Tri since making his debut in September 2018 while Álvarez has been capped 15 times.
