The reason why Christian Pulisic didn’t leave Chelsea in January
The Premier League team was prepared to let the US team out in the last transfer market.
Chelsea’s recent million-dollar investment in the winter transfer window has given pundits and fans a lot to talk about - despite the big money signings that Todd Boehly approved for Graham Potter’s team, the Blues have yet to find their way out of a slump with just one league win in five games since the start of the New Year.
The arrival of players like Mykhailo Mudryk, João Félix and Enzo Fernández, signalled the possibility that there could be departures - with USMNT forward Christian Pulisic being one of the candidates to leave the club.

According to the journalist and transfer specialists, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea were willing to let Pulisic leave if a suitable offer came in during the January window, as Boehly and the board were not contemplating a loan for the 24-year-old.
Even Romano himself reported on CBS’ YouTube channel that Chelsea’s plan was to find another club for Pulisic after the arrival of Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk, for whom the Blues paid 70 million euros, which with variables, could reach a figure close to 100 million.
The main problem in releasing Pulisic
Pulisic himself was already resigned to finding a new destination, knowing that his playing time would be further affected by the arrival of new signings, however the move was thwarted.
Despite multiple reports indicating that Chelsea were not thinking of finding an outlet for Pulisic, the club did actually opt for his departure once Mudryk’s arrival was finalized, however, the injury that the American suffered in the game against Manchester City on 5 January ended up frustrating the departure of the former Borussia Dortmund player.
However, it is expected that this summer, Chelsea will begin to listen to offers for Pulisic, whom they would let go in exchange for a figure of between 35 to 40 million euros.
