The reason why Liverpool’s Keyrol Figueroa wouldn’t represent Honduras

The mother of the 16-year-old revealed that if her son doesn’t play for the Honduras national team it is because of the football federation.

Keyrol Figueroa is considered to be the future of the Honduras national team in this new World Cup cycle even though he is only 16-years-old. The striker has already made his debut for Liveprool’s U16 and U18 youth academy teams and demonstrated he can score spectacular goals.

Soccer DNA runs in his veins because he is the son of former Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa and he has a bright future ahead of him. The 16-year-old was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and he is expected to receive a call up to the national team for the upcoming international window.

Honduras is to blame

Honduras is pushing for Figueroa to make a decision about his career at international level sooner rather than later because he already played for the United States in the Under-17 CONCACAF Championship in February. His mother, Sandra Norales, explained why Keyrol decided to accept the invitation of the US youth team and why he might not play for Honduras at senior level.

Ask the Honduras Football Federation why Keyrol wasn’t called up. We prepared for him for to be there one day and we sacrificed many things from our own pockets. Only those close to us know the truth. If he isn’t playing for Honduras it is not our fault,” wrote Sandra Norales on social media to defend the decision her son made to play for the US.

“Stop making fun of my son’s dreams and look how far we have come as a family. Everything that has been said online is not true and we didn’t betray our country,” concluded Norales. Fans from Honduras were not happy to see the son of a former legend playing for the United States and started trolling him on social media.
