The reason why this Manchester United star is paying for his teammates' dinner
Ahead of Sunday’s game against Fulham, Ruben Amorim has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho has been hit with a strange club punishment.

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho will have to pay for a team dinner after being reprimanded by head coach Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho was substituted in the first half of Wednesday’s narrow win over struggling Ipswich Town after an early red card for Patrick Dorgu. It was a frustrating evening for Garnacho and he stormed down the tunnel after being substituted, rather than staying with his teammates on the bench to watch the remainder of the game.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Amorim revealed that Garnacho had spoken about the incident on Thursday and apologised for his actions. However, he still has to make it up to his teammates.
“He came to me, to my office,” Amorim explained. “I did some investigation. He [Garnacho] went to dressing room, watched the game, then went home. It is not an issue but I told him that at Manchester United everything is an issue. At this club, perception is important, perception is important.”
Amorim added: “He will pay for dinner for all the team. That is it.”
Garnacho has struggled to show his best form in the early days of Amorim’s Old Trafford tenure, not helped by the fact that he has no natural position in the 3-4-3 formation favoured by the Portuguese boss. Garnacho does not possess the defensive inclination to play as either of the wing-backs, but the roles of the more central attackers do not allow him the space to beat players one-on-one.
There has been talk of United being open to selling Garnacho if they receive a significant offer but Amorim appears willing to give the Argentine the opportunity to develop. During Friday’s press conference he said that he sympathises with Garnacho for the level of interest that young players now receive.
“I think it’s completely different for players now. Before it was just newspapers and nothing more. With social media it is completely different. You cannot go on social media without seeing news or a photo or if you read something bad then you focus on that. You can have 100 good things but one bad thing and you will focus on that.”
