The saga is finally over: Neymar renews with Santos
The Brazilian player has renewed his contract with Santos for another year, after a magical end to the season that saved them from relegation.

A second chapter that actually looks promising. After spending months flirting with relegation and then clawing its way into a continental competition spot, Santos has done everything necessary to convince Neymar to commit to one more year with the club where he first became a star.

On Tuesday, the Peixe officially announced that Neymar has renewed his contract for an additional year, keeping him tied to the club through the end of 2026.
After a turbulent season, Neymar seems to have rediscovered his rhythm at the most crucial moment — and, more importantly, he’s happy and back home.
Despite weeks of rumors linking him to European clubs — and even talk of a possible return to Saudi Arabia — the Brazilian forward has made his decision: he’s staying in Brazil, ready to take another step forward with a club determined to reclaim its historic stature alongside one of the greatest icons in its 100‑plus‑year history.
“Having Neymar Jr. with us through the end of 2026 means far more than just a contract. Extending his deal for another year is a commitment to our history, to our fans, and to Santos’ sporting project. Having a homegrown player of his stature leading this new cycle only reinforces the club’s relevance on both the national and global stage,” Santos president Marcelo Teixeira told AS in an exclusive interview.

No World Cup plans — for now...
Throughout Neymar’s time back at Santos, there has been constant debate about his fitness and the possibility of Carlo Ancelotti calling him up for the World Cup — a scenario that left his 2026 plans up in the air.
Half a season in Europe might have boosted his chances of returning to the Seleção, but it’s not out of the question that, if he reaches top form, Ancelotti could bring him straight from Brazilian soccer.
Ultimately, after several meetings between the club, the player, and the Brazilian Football Confederation, the consensus was that staying in Brazil was the best path forward. Ancelotti’s staff intends to include several Brasileirão-based players in the World Cup squad, and Neymar’s name is highlighted — if he arrives in peak condition.
The March international break, which he should reach fully fit after his recent surgery, will likely determine the trajectory of his season… and his World Cup hopes.
