The stat about Messi that has Argentina worried
Paraguay recorded a win over Argentina in World Cup qualifying, making it a terrible week for Leo Messi.
It’s been a tough week for Lionel Messi. On Saturday, Inter Miami was knocked out of the MLS Playoffs, and on Thursday, the Albiceleste lost 2-1 to Paraguay in Asunción.
Messi, who had a stellar performance against Bolivia with a hat-trick, couldn’t do much to prevent Argentina’s defeat against Paraguay this time.
The Inter Miami forward is currently seeming to struggle when playing away from his home country. Out of the four away matches Messi has played with Argentina in this campaign, he has failed to score in three.
Messi failed to find the net in matches against Brazil, Venezuela, and now Paraguay, and he missed Argentina’s away games against Colombia and Bolivia.
The only away game in which Messi managed to shine was against Peru in Lima. The Inter Miami star scored a brace to lead Argentina to a 2-0 victory.
Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches
This was Argentina’s last away match of the year, as their final game of 2024 will be against Peru at Boca Juniors’ Bombonera stadium. The national team will resume activity in March 2025.
Argentina will visit Montevideo (Uruguay), Santiago (Chile), and Quito (Ecuador) to conclude the World Cup qualifiers, and will also host Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela as they aim to secure their spot in the World Cup.
