FINALISSIMA
USA emerges as potential venue for the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain
Although there is no set date yet for the match between the champions of America and Europe, the United States is being tipped as a possible venue for the game.
Argentina and Spain were crowned champions of the Copa América and Euro 2024 respectively this summer and in the process secured the right to compete in the next edition of the Finalissima.
The Finalissima (a joint venture between UEFA and CONMEBOL) pits both confederation winners against one another with the inaugural game taking place in June 2022 when Argentina beat Italy at Wembley Stadium.
At present, a packed schedule, further complicated by next summer’s expanded FIFA Club World Cup means that no date has been allocated to the game but according to information from TyC Sports, the Finalissima, despite being originally scheduled for October or November 2025, may be pushed back into 2026 (March) given the lack of windows in an already crammed schedule.
The US emerges as a possible venue for the Finalissima
TyC Sports also maintains, that regardless of whether the Finalissima takes place in 2025 or 2026 prior to the World Cup, one of the leading countries where the game between Argentina and Spain could take place would be the United States, although the city or stadium has not yet been specified despite many rumours suggesting that New York is the likely venue.
The game could also serve as another high profile test-run prior to the 2026 World Cup which is set to be co-hosted in Canada, Mexico and predominantly in the USA.
