Inter Miami’s young sensation David Ruiz is generating a lot of interest in MLS. The 21-year-old midfielder has impressed with his performances in recent games and in despite his young age, the Honduran Football Federation (FENAFUTH) is reported to be considered calling him up for the national team. However, according to the player’s representative, the United States has set its sights on him and is also considering calling him.

David has sentimental attachment to both Honduras and the United States; it’s a very difficult decision because he has an interest in both and he must make the best decision. It’s emotional for him but we are very happy that he is being recognized,” his representative, Pedro Nery, told Deporte Total USA, adding that Ruiz, who came up through Miami’s youth system, was very happy to have completed his sixth full game of the regular season, his second in succession, in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against New York City.

On whether Ruiz has already made a decision

The agent was asked whether Ruiz was any closer to making a decision about his international career, he replied: “I can see him playing the World Cup, but I can’t speak right now if that will be with Honduras or the United States. That’s a decision that needs to be discussed with the player and both federations. He has the possibility with the United States and Honduras. We are talking with the staff of the Honduras and United States national team, it is a difficult decision and we have to talk to the player, his family. He is still only a kid so we need to stay calm”.

Could he play for the United States?

Yes. Ruiz has only played one game with Honduras - last month’s 4-0 win over Grenada in the Concacaf Nations League. Seeing as he is still 21 years old and was born in Miami, Florida, he could choose to represent the USMNT.
