The wheels come off at Club América with another final defeat for the ‘Aguilas’

After a wonderful 2024, Águilas fans are helplessly watching as the team maintain their decline with 2025 turning into a nightmare for the Coapa side. That powerful and imposing team led by André Jardine, which once terrified the entire nation, is now in free fall, losing everything it was supposed to win in a matter of six months with Sunday’s defeat to Toluca in the Campeon de Campeones final.

Six months to forget

The arrival of the Brazilian coach in mid-2023 marked a turning point in the history of the “Azulcrema” team. In a flash, the Águilas won three Liga MX titles, a Campeón de Campeones, a Supercopa MX, and a Campeones Cup. An enviable list of achievements for any team starting a new project. However, it seems that Jardine’s rhetoric is beginning to wear thin, which is normal in a competition as demanding as Liga MX, with its tight schedules generated by adverse competition.

In this 2025 full of disappointments, America has lost:

• Concacaf Champions Cup final (quarter-final elimination)
• Clausura 2025 final vs Toluca
• Club World Cup Play-In Ticket vs LAFC
• Champion of Champions final vs Toluca

Club América can still look forward to closing out the year with some dignity, knowing that they have another pair of titles to contend with, such as the current Liga MX Apertura 2025 tournament, as well as the 2025 Leagues Cup, the controversial tournament against MLS rivals. This year’s format has been modified and will debut on July 30th. Their first-round opponents will be Real Salt Lake City, Minnesota United, and Portland Timbers.
