Since taking over Wrexham AFC in 2020, the lower league Welsh team owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has become a global phenomenon and much of this success is boosted with the two editions of the FX/Disney Plus documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

The original documentary followed the Hollywood pair as they embarked on the adventure to secure the struggling Welsh club and the ensuing rollercoaster 2021-22 season as hopes and dreams were dashed as the ‘Red Dragons’ failed to secure promotion to the fourth tier of the English football pyramid. Despite the failure on the pitch, the documentary was a massive success generating a legions of new Wrexham fans worldwide.

Season two continued with the same winning format and documented the club’s push for promotion with the season ending on a positive note as Wrexham were promoted back to the football league after tremendous battle with Notts County at the top of the Conference.

With the final episode of Season Two set to air this week, the club have confirmed that a third season has been commissioned to map the adventure of the Welsh side as they return to league football and push for another successive promotion to League One.

Wrexham starting strongly

The Red Dragons won last weekend against Kent based Gillingham which saw Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s team now recording 11 consecutive games without defeat which has fans dreaming again.

The top three teams at the end of season get automatic promotion to League One (third tier of the English pyramid), while the teams from 4th to 7th place go into a play-off tournament for the final promotion spot and after 17 games, Wrexham currently sit in second place with Stockport County the early pace setters.
