This former Tottenham manager could be close to a return to touchline with critical Spurs situation

Tottenham were hammered at the Metropolitano on Tuesday night against Atletico de Madrid, but more concerning is their position in the Premier League.

It’s been a disastrous campaign for Tottenham Hotspur, and the chaos hit a crescendo on Tuesday night in Madrid. A 5-2 loss to Atletico de Madrid have complicated things in the Champions and questions are starting to surround interim manager Igor Tudor.

Red alert in North London

Tudor has yet to win a match in his short term as Spurs’ temporary manager, and the situation is becoming critical in North London. Champions League is a secondary priority at the moment as Tottenham is set for a fight for survival in the final stretch of the league campaign.

Former Tottenham Harry Redknapp has offered his services if needed, although he sees a potential return as very unlikely. “I’ve been asked a few times if I’d go back to Spurs and it’s probably not going to happen, is it?” the veteran manager told The Press Association. “Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much it’s going to happen.”

The 79 year old manager has spent the last nine years away from football, seemed more than willing for a shocking return to the touchline if Tottenham decided to part ways with Tudor from here until the end of the season. “They’ve got it all on to stay up, it’s going to be hard. I’m looking at their fixtures and Nottingham Forest are playing all right, West Ham are playing very well, it’s going to be tough for Tottenham,” said Redknapp about the current situation at White Hart Lane.

Nottingham Forest, West Ham in survival fight

Redknapp, who spent four years at the club, has denied that there have been any talks or anyone reaching to him despite mounting pressure circling the current manager. “They haven’t been in touch, not at all,” he reiterated. “I hope Spurs stay up and I hope West Ham stay up,” said the former Portsmouth boss.

With nine match days to go, Tottenham sit 16th in the league and just a point above Nottingham Forest and West Ham United who are in 17th and 18th respectively. On the heels of their loss to Atletico de Madrid, they have a massive match at Anfield over the weekend with Liverpool fighting to get into the top four.

Perhaps no one defined the situation better than the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust who described this as a crucial moment that could define the future of this club. “It’s symptomatic of the abysmal state of things at Spurs right now. Emergency action is needed as right now we are sleepwalking off the edge of a cliff,” posted the Trust on social media.
