Tiago Volpi: “It was a difficult but unforgettable night for us”
The Brazilian goalkeeper recognised the quality of América but was delighted with the victory.
“I don’t believe in giving up,” was how Toluca goalkeeper Tiago Volpi responded to TUDN when asked about his team overcoming the difficulties they experienced in the Apertura 2022.
“We’ve been through some very difficult moments during the tournament. We started very well, then we had five or six games without a win where [the team] started to generate a lot of doubts. After international duty, the team became very strong and showed that it is a team that fights at all times.
Unforgettable night for Toluca
The goalkeeper took the opportunity to praise América, who he respects very much “for everything they are doing”. The netminder went on to dedicate the win to the fans and his family and thanked them for being part of “an unforgettable night for Toluca”.

Despite being responsible for America’s goal that reduced the deficit in the tie, Volpi responded with a stunning second-half save from Alvaro Fidalgo’s header and was later named Man of the Match for his performance.
