Tigres lost the local derby to Rayados (0-1) last Saturday in the matchday 12 game of the 2023 Liga MX Clausula but just as the dust was settling after the defeat, the Nuevo Leon club are involved in a different episode.

After the game footage began to circulate on social media of the Tigres UANL mascot making improper gestures to Rayados fans present at ‘El Volcan’ ahead of the contest.

Such was the furore post-game that Tigres were forced to make a statement on the episode.

Tigres “will take appropriate measures” after a video circulated on social networks in which the team’s mascot can be seen making some “inappropriate gestures” towards the stands.

“In view of the video that is circulating on social networks about the Tigres botarga (mascot) making some inappropriate gestures to the stands: we reproach this type of attitude because it does not represent the values of Tigres, so we will take appropriate measures to act accordingly,” claimed the club in a statement released through Twitter.

In the video in question, which lasts eleven seconds, the mascot wearing the UANL colours is shown pointing towards the supporters, simulating the stripes (of Monterrey) on his jersey followed by an offensive gesture towards the fans.
