Tigres sack Marco Ruiz, Siboldi set to take the reins

Tigres appear to have made a decision about who the club will bring in as coach for the remainder of 2023 Clausura regular season and sources close to AS Mexico have confirmed that Robert Dante Siboldi will take the reins.

Through a statement on social media, the club officially announced Chima’s departure and although Siboldi’s arrival has yet to be confirmed, a statement is expected in the next few hours.

The 57-year-old Uruguayan will take the reins of the team for the remaining three games of the Clausura 2023 regular season and the playoffs along with the Concachampions semi-final (likely against against León). Club president Mauricio Culebro is due to give further details about Siboldi’s appointment on Monday morning.

Ruiz leave the Auriauzul coaching post after 12 matches, where he gained disappointing figures - four victories, three draws and a woeful five defeats (four of them consecutively).

Tigres are currently seventh in the Liga MX table on 21 points and have ensured that they have done enough to qualify for the Liguilla in spite of their bad run of a results earlier on in the campaign.

Siboldi has been spotted during a number of visits to the city and even attended games of Tigres games. A former goalkeeper, he spent four seasons at the club during his playing days (1995-1999). As a coach, he has a rich track record - the standout being the Clausura 2018 title he won with Santos during his first full season in charge.

The Uruguayan will be the fourth coach to occupy on the Auriazules’ bench, since Ricardo Ferretti’s departure in 2021, following Miguel Herrera, Diego Cocca and Marco Ruiz.
