TIGRES
Tigres’ strong record in semi-finals
Tigres are 90 minutes away from playing in their sixth international final.
Tigres are 90 minutes away from playing in their sixth international final, their fifth in the Concacaf Champions League.
The match between Tigres and Club León for a place in the final of the Concacaf Champions League is massive for both clubs. Tigres are strong favourites to advance to the final of the tournament after a 2-1 first leg victory, and because of their recent record.
Tigres have come out on top every time they have reached the semi-finals of an international tournament. The winning streak began in Ricardo Ferretti’s third spell in charge (2010-2021), although it was not in Concacaf, but in the Copa Libertadores in 2015.
They advanced to the semis, beating Ecuador’s Emelec in the quarter-finals, to face Internacional of Porto Alegre. Next up was River Plate, who beat the Mexican side 3-0 in the final in the second leg at El Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Subsequently, Concacaf became something of a tradition for Tigres, where they showed their flair in the 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020 editions, beating Querétaro, Vancouver Whitecaps, Santos Laguna and Olimpia (Honduras) respectively, prior to reaching the final.
Title in 2020
Unfortunately, only in 2020, after defeating Los Angeles FC 2-1 in the final, did they win the title. The team coached by Robert Dante Siboldi now have the chance to lift it again, three years later.
