Winning isn't always pretty
They huffed and they puffed, but in the end the house wasn't blown down. Indeed, on a night when Tigres had it all to do, the task proved a little too tough as Chivas stood resolute in defense.
Never quite playing openly, but never parking the bus either, a solid display handed Guadalajara the draw with the second leg to come on Sunday.
As for Tigres, they will rue a number of half chances. Indeed, the side from Monterrey seemed to be always in a hurry and perhaps had the likes of Cordova and Gignac taken a little more time with the opportunities that fell to them, the game could have gone very differently.
Ultimately, Chivas were able to grind out the draw as they look to match Club America on 13 for the joint record of most Clausura titles ever. While there were few chances for either side on the night, the team from Guadalajara have set themselves up for the home return.

We're entering the final minute of stoppage time and Tiges loft the ball into the area. It's cleared but only as far as Cordova who fires it back in.
Finally they attempt a probing ball to Cordova, but it's too long and Chivas will have a goal kick.
Carioca again but he's forced to the left after trying to go to the right. Tigres now go home. Chivas is as compact as ever in defense now.
Fulgencio's cross is blocked on the left and Tigres will have a throw. It's now or never.
There will be 4 minutes of stoppage time as Carioca brings it up.
It's the final minute of the match and Tigres are almost out of time.

Chivas are putting together some tidy touches at the moment, but it ends with Perez pushing the ball too long on the right and Tigres will ahve a throw.
Tigres finally manage to regain possession but the pass for Cordova is too long and Guzman will collect it.

There isn't much time now. Just 5 minutes in fact and Chivas are moving forward until play is halted by a foul in the middle.
Carioca gets it to the left and it's Quinones, but he's dispossessed and Chivas break.
Tigres' free kick from the right side will be taken by Ibanes and it's a rifle of a shot to goal. Guzman can only punch it out an Tigres maintain the ball.
Mayorga is carded for his brutal challenge on the Tigres star.
The challenges are coming in thick and fast now from both sides, but the ref seems to be letting play go It's Cordova on the ball now and he's fouled heavily. There will be a card.
His free kick is blocked and Tigres will have a throw in from the left.
The crowd is demanding a goal from their team and Cordova looks like he's like to oblige.
We're entering the last 10 and it's Quinones on the left. He'll play to Cordova who is fouled at the top of the box. A free kick in a very dangerous spot. This could be a problem for Chivas.
Mayorga is released on the left and his cross is blocked. A quickly taken corner is cleared out of the box and it's Carioca with a thunderous volley from outside the box, but it goes just wide.
Tigres bring the ball up once again after Guzman's goal kick, Carioca on it now, but they are forced home.
A decent pass into the box from Reyes, but Cordova fails to control, when he would have been alone in front of the goal. The fans can't believe it.
It's all Tigres in possession now, but Chivas are standing firm. The passing is essentially horizontal which isn't good for their cause.
There's just 15 minutes of regulation time left in this one and at this rate, Chivas will be champions. Can Tigres change that?
Another two changes from Chivas. It's Alvarado who goes out for Calderon, along with Guzman who is replaced by Mayorga.
A great long ball into space for Quinones, but he's alone and is forced to retreat. He's tackled in the process and there will be a Tigres throw.
Ibanez again on the right but his cross is handled by Lopez in the box according to the ref. It's a Chivas free kick.
We're now inside the final 20 minutes and it's Tigres on the ball once again. They're looking for solutions on the left side with Vigon.
In the end the throw is well controlled and their is a cross, but it's too long and there will be a Chivas goal kick.
To the right they go and it's a decent cross from Ibanez, but it's cleared and Tigres will have a throw. It's getting hot now.
Chivas have gone into defensive mode now as they look to grind this one out. Tigres on the other hand are growing more frustrated as the clock ticks down.
Tigres will make two more changes with Gignac leaving for Lopez and LAinez going out for Ibanez.
After a clearance Tigres break, but Cordova gets caught up in a scuffle and he will be carded. You can see the frustration growing in the side from Monterey.
Jimenez is forced to meet the ball after a decent cross and in the end plays it out of bounds before sprinting back to his goal. A Chivas throw in.
Chivas will make a change with Gonzalez going out and Torres coming in. The side from Guadalajara is starting to slow the pace down, knowing they just have to see this out.
There's a collision in the box but the referee is not buying it as Quinones goes to ground.
Chivas bring it up and Vigon's early cross is blocked. they'll have a throw which is cleared by Tigres.
As they bring the ball up, it's Cordova who plays to Gignac on the left and then the ball is changed to the right. Unfortuantely, Carioca is called for offside.
Following the corner, Tigres are able to bring the ball out, but a clearance is blocked for a goal kick which is played short.
We've hit the 60 minute mark as we await Chivas' corner, but we've got some pushing in the box that the referee is sorting out.
Quinones with another dangerous cross but the ball is cleared. This time Lainez crosses from the left and it's too deep. Chivas break and now they've got a corner!
Guzman with the deep kick out and Perez is immediately off and running, but the ball is ushered out for a goal kick to Tigres.
Tigres with the throw from the right side, but it will have to wait as both Vega and Brizuela are changed for Cisnero and Perez respectively.
Lainez with the cross, but it's too long. They still keep possession and it's Quinones who crosses from the right. Gignac barely misses the header and it will be a goal kick.
The action restarts with Tigres playing back to Jimenez, who boots it long and Cordova collects.
That's Gorriaran's last touch as he's replaced by Vigon. Aquino is also changed for Garza.
A decent cross from Cordova on the left and Gorriaran meets it well, but his shot is poor and it will be a goal kick for Chivas.
Lainez with a poor pass when he was in a dangerous position, Tigres are forced to retreat and they will try again.
A scary moment as Jimenez stalls on the ball in his own area. The Tigres keeper just manages to boot it before Vega gets too close.
Gorriaran is forced to foul to break things up and is carded for his efforts.
Tigres break on the left and it's Cordova with a clever run into the box. His cross leaves a lot to be desired and Chivas will break.
It now seems that Gonzalez was in fact carded for his foul on Cordova
Chivas once again have the ball but their passing is poor on the right and Tigres will have the throw.
Chivas break down the left through Vega and his cross is well met by Alvarado, but his shot is horrible. Tigres will have a goalkick.
Chivas don't fair any better and Cordova is allowed to break but Gonzales fouls him immediately in the midfield. He's lucky not to be carded for that.
Tigres regain and attempt to play directly to Gignac, but the Frenchman is robbed of the ball after a bad touch and you can hear the crowd's disappointment.
After playing in their own defense, Tigres are dispossessed and Chivas break, but Vega has nobody with him and is finally halted. Tigres bring it out.
Tigres get us started in this second half with the score tied at 0-0.

The players are on the field and we're ready to go for the second half!
It's been a tussle
The first half hasn't provided us with many chances in truth and the ones that we've seen were essentially the result of defensive errors or fortune.
With that said, what the teams have lacked in precision in front of goal, they've made up for with true intensity.
This second leg match has been contested at a frantic pace, which perhaps is what ironically has led to the lack of goals.
Ultimately, Tigres has no choice but to go for it as they trail 2-1 following the first leg loss. Expect fireworks!

What was a clear gift from Gorriaran was somehow not accepted by Brizuela. He'll be ruing that miss if this game doesn't go the way of Chivas in the end.

With less than a minute of stoppage time played, the referee brings the first half to a close. It's 0-0 for the moment!
After a terrible giveaway by Gorriaran, it's Brizuela who gets in and he blasts it at goal, but it's too high.
Chivas are off and running again, but they are forced to go home. You get the feeling that if they were slightly more patient, they could give us something to shout about.
It's quickly broken up And Tigres will play home.
Chivas almost manage to cut into the box, but it's Angulo who brings it to an end and immediately releases Cordova.
No scrap that, the referee has now given a goal kick.
We're approaching the end of regulation time and in truth there has been no clear cut chance in this first half. None the less it's Tigres who break to the right and they will have a corner.
Cordova onc again released on the left, but he's quickly shutdown by his shadow, Sepulveda. This is proving to be an interesting battle.
It's wasted and Cordova breaks. He plays to Gignac on the right side who then crosses the ball...into the stands. The disappointment from the fans is audible.

Fontes with a heavy foul on Guzman, but there is no card. Surprising
Orozco has a look at goal and lines up a shot from at least 40 yards out. It was nowhere close and by the looks of his teammates, we'll be hoping he doesn't try that again.
Cordova is played down the left again but Sepulveda is once again up to the task. He's having a good game. Chivas will have a goal kick.
Chivas regain the ball but as quickly as they do, they give it away. This time it's Brizuela who is the culprit as he tries to change the ball to the left.
Quinones receives the throw and manages to play Cordoba into space, the midfielders cross is once again dangerous, but nobody is their to receive as it passes infront of goal.
In the end the throw goes begging and Chivas will have a goal kick. Guzman launches it deep and they concede a throw.
Carioca is having a solid but fine game in the middle of the field for Tigres. He makes things look simple as he strokes the ball to the right where Aquino is waiting. Tigres come forward and will ahve a throw on the right.
Tigres are finally dispossessed and Chivas attempt to go foward but they will settle for a throw in.
After failing to find fortune on the right, they work the ball to Cordova on the left, but he too fails to find any space.
Back to Jimenez they go and again Tigres come forward. They seem to be cooking something up.
The game is heating up now after Quinones' run is brought to an end in suspicious circumstances. It appeared to be a foul, but the ref wasn't having it.
Aquino once again with the foul, he'll need to watch himself if he intends to stay on the field.
There's a foul in the middle and once again it's Aquino who is involved and he's already on a yellow.
Following the throw, the ball is changed to the right, but Chivas lose it and it will be Tigres' turn to have a throw.
Quinones is getting involved in some banter with the referee, but Chivas will ahve a throw on the left.
Vega to take...but it's in the wall in the end and there is also a foul in the box. Tigres will have the ball.
Chivas are finding their rhythm now and break through Alvarado, but he's quickly fouled and they will have a free kick from a dangerous area.
After a very fortunate deflection the ball bounced off the crossbar and falls to Gignac, but he fails to put it home. An unbelievable miss.
Gignac gets his first real look at goal and has a shot at it, but fails to generate any power. An easy take for Guzman in Chivas' goal.
Jimenez has had little to do in goal tonight for Tigres, but his play out of the area has been precise, allowing his team to build attack after attack.
Their attack is short lived as Tigres regain the ball and once again come forward with composure. They're the better side so far.
Tigres regain and come forward through Pizarro, it's out left to Cordova, who plays to Cordova and his cross is dangerous, but just deflected by the keeper. Chivas break.
Pizarro brings it forward into the midfield, but his passing which is intended for Cordova goes begging and Chivas will have it again.
Lainez is played down the right side, but the ball is ushered out by Sepulveda and Chivas will have a goal kick.
After playing to their keeper Tigres make their way out of defense calmly. Cordova receives on the left side of the box and will have a shot, but it's blocked and Chivas break.
From the resulting throw, Tigres regain possession and Cordova is off and running. His pass infield, however, is interecepted and Chivas break. They will have a throw.
Thr throw is wasted and Chivas play out of their defense with some clever touches, which results in Vega being released down the right side, but he's halted and Tigres settle.
Quinones threatens on the right, but his cross is blocked and Tigres will have a throw.
Reyes plays infield and the ball is changed to the right, but Cordova's pass is just too long for Lainez to get on the end of it.
For the moment, Tigres are dominating possession, but they have failed to produce any real threat. They will need to do so if they're going to get a result.
It's poorly taken but possession is returned and Tigres play back to their defense.

Tigres regain possession. For the moment this is a midfield slog with neither team really making progress, but Cordova has won a corner!
Tigres are on the attack again and this time it's Quinones who's off on a run, but he's halted and Chivas will bring it out of their defense.
While attempting to throw the ball into play, it appears Alguno elbowed his opponent, he's been carded for his troubles.
Tigress play back to their defense, preferring instead to be patient, but Luis is set in motion down the right side.
Alexis Vega gets his first touch, but it's a poor one and Tigres regain possession.
They're quickly dispossessed and Cordova introduces himself to those in attendance immediately. He'll need to have a big night if Tigres are to triumph.
