CAMPEONES CUP

Tigres set to face LAFC in the 2023 Campeones Cup: date, venue, kick-off time

BMO Stadium in Los Angeles is the venue for the 2023 Campeones Cup as the Black and Gold face Tigres.

Update:
Two of the best in the West go head-to-head
ALLISON DINNEREFE

Tigres are in good form at the moment and head to Los Angeles this week after a solid 3-0 thrashing in the Clasico Regio, against neighbours Monterrey where players like Nahuel Guzman and Andre-Pierre Gignac shone. The Liga MX now face Los Angeles FC in the Campeones Cup 2023 at BMO Stadium.

The one-off final will be played in Los Angeles, home of last season’s MLS champions. The match will be played on Wednesday 27 September at 8:00 p.m. (PT) / 11:pm (ET) and even though there is a trophy on the line where the Liga MX 2023 Clausura winners face the 2022 MLS Cup champions go head-to-head this is not a game that is part of the CONCACAF calendar and is in essence a friendly match.

Wednesday’s game will be the second time that Tigres get to play in this special match. In the inaugural edition of 2018, the same player base of Nahuel Guzmán, Rafael Carioca, Guido Pizarro and André-Pierre Gignac, under the guidance of “Tuca” Ferretti, beat Italian Sebastian Giovinco’s Toronto FC.

The Campeones Cup was created five years ago as a joint initiative between MLS and Liga MX for teams from both countries to compete against each other. With the exception of the 2020 edition cancelled due to pandemic and the 2018 edition won by Tigres, all other editions have been won by US teams (Atlanta United, Columbus Crew and New York City FC).
