Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams missed the start of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign after undergoing surgery at the end of last season to fix an issue with his back. Now, as domestic competition returns with Week 8 fixtures to be played this weekend, the player is preparing to return to the pitch.

Adams ended last season carrying a back injury but insisted on taking part in this summer’s Copa América with the United States. He started all three group games (against Bolivia, Panama and Uruguay) but when the USMNT failed to make it to the knockout round, he decided to go under the knife to remedy his back problems.

The USMNT captain joined Bournemouth on a $25 million deal from Leeds United in August 2023 but he made just four appearances in his debut season, completing only one full game. He missed the start of the campaign and underwent two operations on his right hamstring - an injury which he initially picked up in March 2023 at his previous club.

Iraola gives update on Adams

The good news is that he has returned to full training and is now available for selection. Cherries manager Andoni Iraola gave an update on Adams’ situation on Friday and spoke about the possibility of his return against Arsenal. “Everyone is going to be available. The case of Tyler, he hasn’t played a lot so he might lack some game time which is normal. He has trained very well. He is ready. The same with Milos [Kerkez]. He’s feeling better. We still have to train today so we will see but yesterday they both trained.”

Tyler Adams emerged from the New York Red Bulls academy, and made the move to Europe in January 2019, joining RB Leipzig. After two and a half years in the Bundesliga, he was lured to England, signing a five-year deal with Leeds. He made his Premier League debut in the 2-1 home win against Wolves in August 2022.

At Elland Road he made a total of 26 appearances including two FA Cup games, totaling 2,292 minutes but was unable to contribute any goals or assists.

Since joining his current club he has accumulated a total of 138 minutes on the field of play and his stats reflect his limited playing time - zero goals and zero assists.

Bournemouth play host to Arsenal in Saturday’s late game, kicking off at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 p.m. PT. The Cherries start the weekend in 13th place in the table with eight points and two wins, while Arsenal are third and remain unbeaten.
