UEFA hit Real Madrid with racism sanction: What punishment did the club receive?
The Spanish giants were fined and face a possible partial Bernabéu closure after racist fan behavior during their recent match against Benfica.

UEFA has fined Real Madrid and issued a suspended partial stadium closure after what it described as racist behavior by the club’s fans during a match against Benfica.
The sanction affects a section of the Santiago Bernabéu, although the closure will only take effect if similar incidents occur again within the next year.
Fine and suspended stadium closure
In an official statement, UEFA confirmed that Real Madrid has been fined €15,000, a little over $17,300.
The disciplinary ruling also orders a partial closure of the Santiago Bernabéu during the club’s next UEFA home match. Specifically, around 500 seats in the lower south stand would be closed.

UEFA statement
“Real Madrid C.F. is fined €15,000 and ordered to partially close the Real Madrid C.F. stadium, namely 500 adjacent seats in the lower south stand, during the next UEFA club competition match in which Real Madrid C.F. plays as host, for the racist and/or discriminatory behavior of its supporters.”
Why Bernabéu closure won’t affect City clash
However, the sanction will not be enforced immediately.
UEFA clarified that the stadium closure has been suspended for a probationary period of one year starting from the date of the ruling. That means the affected section of the Bernabéu will remain open unless another similar incident occurs during that time.
As a result, the sanction will not apply to Real Madrid’s upcoming home match against Manchester City in European competition.
Suspended stadium closures are a common disciplinary measure used by UEFA, allowing clubs to avoid immediate punishment while placing them under close scrutiny for repeat offenses.
