UEFA President Ceferin believes Real Madrid have a chance against Manchester City
The UEFA president spoke about the Champions League semi-final match at the Etihad as well as the reported change of venue for the final.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin does not see a clear favorite between Madrid and City to qualify for the Champions League final, despite the first-leg draw at the Bernabéu that could be seen as a favourable result for the English side: “In my opinion, everything is open in the match between Manchester City and Real Madrid, it’s 50-50. Inter may have got a decisive advantage in the other tie, but, of course, anything is possible”.
The two semi-final winners will meet in the Champions League final on June 10 in Istanbul. Regarding this topic, Ceferin wanted to be very clear that there will be no change of venue despite the fact that this has been hinted at in some media outlets as a result of the general elections in Turkey.
Ceferin says the rumours of a change of venue are ’made up’
“Sometimes you don’t know whether to laugh or cry”, he said. “Someone writes that we are thinking about something, and suddenly, without consulting us, all the media in the world publish it. We are not talking about changing the date or venue of the event. Whoever published it first made it up.”
Ceferin spoke during an event that brought together former Slovenian and Croatian players: “It is our duty to do this. Both the Slovenian and Croatian footballers did not need more than ten seconds to come together. They all did it with great pleasure and will also help personally”, he said about the organization of the charity match that was attended by, among others, Mišo Brečko, Milivoje Novaković, Robert Prosinečki, Zvonimir Boban and Mario Mandžukic.
