UEFA unveils new Champions League ball for matchdays 7/8
With just two rounds of games to go, in what’s proving to be an intriguing new league format, a new ball will be used.
The gamble by European football governing body UEFA in revamping the Champions League seems to be paying off with six match days of the new look ‘Swiss model’ now completed and still plenty of intrigue among contestants.
With two rounds of games outstanding in the league phase, only three teams (RB Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys) are eliminated with plenty on the line for the remaining 33 teams involved.
New balls please
Ahead of matchdays seven and eight which are scheduled for late January, UEFA and German sports manufacturer Adidas, have unveiled a new Champions League ball for these round of games.
The Fired Up ball is a throwback to the original UCL ball – which returned to a classic look, with tip-to-tip stars as opposed to an offset design in use for the first time since 2019. The new ball features red, white and solar yellow waves set against a black background and white stars.
