Uncertainty over Brian Rodríguez: América star’s agent hits out at club
Edgardo Lasalvia, the representative of Club América’s Brian Rodríguez, says his in-demand client needs clarity over his future.
Uncertainty continues to swirl around Uruguayan winger Brian Rodríguez, as Club América reportedly turned down three transfer offers for the 25-year-old - without offering a contract extension, either.
Which clubs are chasing Rodríguez?
Rodríguez, who has just one year left on his current deal with the Mexican giants, is drawing interest from clubs abroad. But according to his agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, América is holding out for a transfer fee of at least $10 million - an amount suitors are reluctant to pay for a player whose contract expires in June 2026.
Speaking on the ESPN show Jorge Ramos y Su Banda, Lasalvia revealed that América has rejected approaches from Brazilian side Santos, MLS club Inter Miami and, most recently, Qatari team Al-Rayyan, which reportedly offered $7 million.
“América haven’t given us any proposal to renew, either,” Lasalvia added. “I even traveled to Mexico City and met with club president Santiago Baños, who was very polite, but we didn’t get any renewal terms."
Lasalvia emphasized that while Rodríguez is happy at América - “Brian loves the club,” he said - the lack of clarity is taking a toll. “I’m trying to find a deal that benefits him both professionally and financially,” Lasalvia explained. “We can’t live in this state of uncertainty - it’s not good for anyone’s mental focus, especially a professional athlete.”
Another Brazilian suitor enters the picture
Lasalvia also mentioned that a second Brazilian club has recently expressed interest, though no formal offer has been submitted yet. He said they’re giving América a bit more time to make a decision, but stressed the need for a resolution soon.
