The match, which will take place outside the official FIFA international window, will allow new head coach Mauricio Pochettino an opportunity to study homegrown and fringe players with the major European stars not available for this match as all roads for the USMNT coach lead to the 2026 World Cup.

“I am looking forward to camp in January and the opportunity to meet as many MLS players as possible and see all the potential talent we have here in the United States,” Pochettino said, adding: “We are happy to bring the national team to South Florida again and to utilize the great facilities that Inter Miami has for this very important moment, as we continue to build towards the 2026 World Cup.”

This will be the second time the USMNT will be based in Fort Lauderdale for the early year training camp with the previous time back in December 2020, when, the team then led by Gregg Berhalter defeated El Salvador 6-0 in a friendly match still behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
