Brenden Aaronson has made an immediate impact since joining RB Salzburg in 2021 and in his second year he is having a breakout campaign. This season the United States international has scored five goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions and Salzburg is making a push to win the league title.

The 21-year-old missed Salzburg 2-1 playoff victory against Austria Wien over the weekend because he is recovering from a knee injury. As he recovers, Aaronson was interviewed by the Austrian club and he talked about his inspirations growing up and his personal idol, Luka Modric.

Aaronson role models

Luka Modric played this incredible cross a few days ago in the Champions League quarter-final. I haven’t seen such a magnificent assist in a long time, it was just insane. He and Steven Gerrard were my big role models growing up,” said Aaronson during the interview.

In the USA, you have Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan and these days Christian Pulisic as the biggest idols. Soccer is growing there, and there are a few heroes already,” he added.

One of the biggest steps for Aaronson was leaving Philadelphia Union to join RB Salzburg last year, but since making the switch it has helped him mature. Also the 21-year-old has become a key play for club and country and due to his performances, several Premier League clubs are keen on signing him in the summer.
