USMNT player Timothy Weah could leave French side Lille this summer. In France, L’Équipe report on Monday that fellow Ligue 1 club Marseille are interested in the 23-year-old, who has a contract with Les Dogues until 2024.

Weah would be a versatile option for Marseille boss Igor Tudor as he is capable of playing on the left and the right.

There has not yet been an offer from the side in second place in the French top flight but the interest is believed to be genuine at decision-making level.

German clubs Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be admirers of Weah.

Who is Timothy Weah?

Weah was born in 2000, a time when his father, George Weah, was finishing his career in European football.

In 2017, at the age of 17, Weah signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where his father also played from 1992 to 1995. The American spent most of his time in the youth ranks of the French club.

While Weah senior was a goalscorer, the US international is more of a wide player, who can operate on both flanks and in more advanced positions.

World Cup with USA

Weah is a good finisher, something he seems to have inherited from his father. Against Wales, in the USA’s opening game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Lille man opened the scoring with a neat finish.

He will be able to tell his father that he did score a goal in a World Cup, something that Weah senior, who was capped by Liberia, was not able to do.
