The USA got their first ever victory over Ghana at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, winning by the same scoreline as their two previous defeats at World Cups.

Dempsey scored after just 30 seconds but it was John Brooks who netted the all-important goal in the 86th minute of the match in front of 40,000 spectators, just four minutes after André Ayew’s equaliser, and the US sealed the win.

The US finished second in the group with four points to progress to the knockout stages, while Ghana came last with just one point from a possible nine.
