USMNT’s Konrad de la Fuente hopes to reignite career at Spanish second division Eibar
The former FC Barcelona has joined the Basque side who play in the second tier on a one year loan deal from Olympique Marseille.
Spanish second division side SD Eibar have unveiled new signing Konrad de la Fuente on Thursday after the American international player put pen to paper earlier in the week after a one season loan deal from Marseille (with an option to buy). The 22-year-old is a versatile winger with the ability to play on either flank.
The Miami-born player cut his teeth at the FC Barcelona academy player after moving from US to the Catalan capital at the age of ten. Despite much promise, he failed to make the desired impact with the first team and moved to Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille in 2021 spending the 2022-23 season on loan with Pireaus based Olympiakos. The USMNT international hopes to revive his career in the Spanish second tier with Basque side SD Eibar with the club hoping to make a return to the top flight under new boss Joseba Etxeberria.
De la Fuente is Eibar’s fourth new signing after the club acquired the services of Mario Soriano, Unai Vencedor and Cristian Gutiérrez.
Upon his unveiling, the 22-year-old claimed that he was ‘really happy to be at Eibar and was anxious to help the team and secure key objectives’.
Eibar open their new season campaign away to Racing Santander this weekend.
