WATCH: Valverde shown red after challenge on Alex Baena in Madrid Derbi
Fede Valverde was shown a red card in the 76th minute of Real Madrid’s match against Atletico de Madrid from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Madrid derby is always a testy affair, and Sunday night’s match only added fuel to what is an already fiery rivalry.
Valverde shown straight red
Fede Valverde was shown a straight red card after his challenge on Alex Baena in the 76th minute. Wearing the captains band and protecting a one goal lead Valverde made a challenge on the Atletico de Madrid midfielder from behind.
Referee Montero Munuera went right to his back pocket and showed Valverde the red card. The challenge was deemed enough to give Valverde his marching orders, forcing Real Madrid to defend a one goal lead with ten men. They were able to do so and take a crucial three points in the title race.
After the red card, Montero Munuera went all the way to the Real Madrid touchline and explained to Alvaro Arbeloa to explain the decision and could be heard saying that the Uruguayan did not attempt to play the ball and that was the reason for the red card.
