Víctor Guzmán joins Chivas to bolster their roster
The Pachuca midfielder becomes El Rebaño’s second off-season acquisition after signing MLS star.
Víctor Guzmán, who won the last championship with Pachuca, has agreed to join the Chivas as a reinforcement following days of negotiations with the board of directors.
The deal calls for Chivas to pay an extra $3 million to the Pachuca Group while also sending Jess Angulo to León (also part of the Pachuca Group). In return, Guadalajara get ‘Pocho’ Guzmán.
Víctor Guzmán will be the Rebaños second addition since they have already signed MLS striker Daniel Ros.
The two soccer players are officially scheduled to join the team within the following few hours.
Víctor Guzmán a failed signing for Guadalajara
In the meantime, the board is still talking about a possible transfer of Angel Zaldivar to the Tíjuana squad and goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez to the Necaxa squad.
El Rebaño signed Víctor Guzmán from Los Tuzos for $10 million in December 2019, but the midfielder’s transfer fell through when he failed a drug test.
In the previous season, Guzmán played a crucial role for the Tuzos squad that won the Opening Season championship in 2022. He was suspended for the whole of that year but will return to the field with Pachuca in 2020.
A Guadalajara youth from the start
El Pocho, who was groomed as a youth in Guadalajara but has spent his whole professional career with Pachuca, has represented Mexico across many Sporting Events (including 2016′s in Rio de Janeiro) and has been called up to the senior national team as recently as 2018.
The previous season, Guadalajara finished in ninth place with 22 points after 17 games, advancing to the repechage before being eliminated in penalties by Puebla.
