Vinicius and Militao set for new deals at Real Madrid
Vinicius’ contract expires in 2024 and Militao’s is up in 2025. Real Madrid want to tie both down to new deals.
Vinicius and Eder Militao will sign new deals with Real Madrid this summer. Vinicius’ current deal ends in 2024 and Militao’s in 2025. Alongside Karim Benzema, Vinicius has been Madrid’s top performer this season and earns €3 million net. Militao currently earns €3.5 million net. Andriy Lunin and Jesús Vallejo are the only players who earn less in the Madrid squad. Contract renewal negotiations have not officially begun, there has been initial contact to notify their entourages of the plan.
Militao’s agent had a meeting with a senior member of the club’s staff in Manchester, coinciding with the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City. The Brazilian centre-back has established himself not only at Madrid but also in the Brazil national team. Several European teams have been knocking on his door, including Chelsea. He is the most used outfield player by Carlo Ancelotti, with 4,200 minutes played this season. Vinicius is second with 4,090 minutes. Militao’s centre-back partner David Alaba is paid €10 million net, and new signing Antonio Rüdiger will earn a similar figure.
Vinicius ready for new deal
Vinicius’ hat-trick against Levante on Thursday moved on to 21 goals for the season. Seventeen of them have come in La Liga. The 21-year-old’s spectacular season means he is the league’s third highest scorer after Benzema and Iago Aspas. Despite the onfield success, he is still on the same terms he signed in May 2017 as a 16-year-old.
As in the case of Militao, Vinicius’ entourage have also been given the message that there will be no problem in improving his contract. His agent, Frederico Pena, spoke about the need for a new contract. “The normal thing, in a player who signs for five or six years (Vinicius signed for six, from 2018 to 2024), is that when there are two years left, talks begin to renew”.
