Wayne Rooney keen on Major League Soccer return
The former Manchester United legend is wanted by DC United for the remainder of the 2022 MLS season.
Wayne Rooney tops the list of candidates to coach DC United for the second part of the 2022 MLS regular season following his spell at Derby County. The Major League Soccer franchise parted ways with Hernan Losada in April and appointed Chad Ashton as the club’s interim head coach.
Rooney’s return to DC United
The former Manchester United legend had a successful spell with the Washington side for two seasons between 2018 to 2020. Now Rooney is eager to return to the United States and take over at DC United.
If Rooney reaches an agreement with the MLS side the Englishman will have a tough job ahead of him with the club in 13th place in the Easterrn Conference standings. The Washington side has suffered nine defeats in 16 games and want to make a late push to qualify to the playoffs this season.
Chad Ashton would welcome the arrival of the 36-years-old having worked as an assistant coach during Rooney’s two-year spell with DC United. The former England international scored 25 goals in 52 games between 2018 to 2020 and he only left because it was reported that his family had a hard time settling in the United States.
