West Ham approach Ajax for Edson Álvarez
The Hammers are interested in signing the Mexican midfielder from the Dutch giants this summer.
Edson Álvarez is of interest to several clubs in Europe and after his move to Borussia Dortmund failed to go through, another club are making an approach. West Ham, who have been tracking the Mexico international for some time now, have contacted Ajax to enquire about the highly-rated player.
According to information from The Athletic, West Ham have already contacted Ajax to let them know of their interest, although they have not yet submitted an offer. According to the same source, the Mexican is a priority signing for the Hammers, who are looking to get closer to the €35-40 million that the Amsterdam club are asking for the former América player.
Replacing Rice
West Ham want Edson to replace Declan Rice, who is joining Arsenal. The Mexican player has four years of experience in European football after moving to Europe in 2019.
This is not the first time that Álvarez has been linked with a move to a Premier League club, as he was close to joining Chelsea in the winter, but the deal fell through.

According to Transfermarkt, Edson Álvarez is worth €35 million, the highest valuation he has had to date in his career.
