Weston McKennie: Helping Juventus go top and a possible new deal
Juventus have gone top of Serie A and McKennie played his part in their latest victory.
The Serie A season continues to produce many surprises, including the explosion of Weston McKennie. The USA midfielder’s future at Juventus was up in the air last summer, but he has since gone on to become one of the best players in the league. McKennie shone once again for the Bianconeri on Sunday, adding another assist to his already impressive numbers. The Vecchia Signora are now top of Serie A and McKennie is a major part of their recent form.
McKennie impressing at Juventus
Aside from Dusan Vlahovic’s brace on Sunday, Max Allegri once again relied on the ability of McKennie to lead the team. The central midfield player now has five assists to his name for the season. McKennie was the master of the Juventus engine room against Lecce, winning 50% of defensive duels and averaging an 83% pass completion rate.
Juventus are top of Serie A for now, a point ahead of Inter, who have a game in hand. After several years in the doldrums, languishing around mid-table, the mood around Juventus has improved. McKennie has been one of the architects of the Turin revolution and, as this newspaper has already reported, there is already talk of a potential contract renewal. The American’s current contract expires in June of next year, however, both parties are currently in talks over how his contract can be renewed.
